JOKE
Richard Butterly

RAMONE AND RENE prepare to dish us the food as John Roach enjoys a good joke with Richard Butterly; Shep Stahel arrives early so he can leave early; Juergen Mahneke reaches for food to feed ROTOPIG; and Gardening Stuff for Oktoberfest piles up.

ACTING SECRETARY PAT HITE
introduces the lone guest and visitor: Ben Coker [Education Administration] from the East Dallas Rotary Club.

MORE WERE ABSENT THAN WERE PRESENT. Everybody makes up and turns in the attendance cards but it would be nice if they were here more often. Missing were Ric Armstrong, Steve Blair, Matt Brown, Kevin Cain, David Daniels, Steve Dippel, Yvonne Hanks, Eric Hartter, Paul Huang, Glenn Justice, Ken Lambert, Colin Light, David McCall, Matthew Moore, John Payton, Bill Peterson, Randy Plumlee, Warner Richeson, Greg Rushin, Chris Sharon, Richard Wells and Jane Wyen.

PRESIDENT ROD called for announcements and  Bud McBrayer told about Rotary Expo last week. Some Money came in, some went out and there was some left over.  Ben Coker from East Dallas was here to tell us about their fund-raiser which is a crayfish boil on Friday, May 4th at the Knights of Columbus Hall on Northwest Highway.  All you can eat crayfish plus other stuff for $25.00

DOUG RAY IS THE NEW ASSISTANT
to Auction Chairthing Judy Jackson and he elaborated extensively on the new 5 line form for recording donations to the Oktoberfest.  Not only was he maligned by Judy for his efforts, but he had to pay a two-bit fine to ROTOPIG.
GEORGE ELWELL is the Chairperson of the  Month for Gardening Stuff Donations to Oktoberfest and he pushed for some more stuff.

DON WILHELMUS [Optometrist] slipped in late as Bob Warren [CPA] slipped out early.  Shep Stahel had already rudely left early.

TODAY'S PROGRAM, introduced by Program Chairthing John Roach, were Carol Schauer, Director of Development  and Ben Retta, Director of Social Work  from the Children's Medical Center <LINK>.  They have 100 acres at  Preston and Hedgecoxe  <LINK> and will have a 72 bed facility opening in 2008. We will be a community partner with them for Oktoberfest.  President Rod presented them with a check from The McCall Foundation.  As is our custom, a book was donated to the Nellie McCall Library in the David McCall elementary school and duly signed by the speakers.  The book was "Who's Going To Take Care of Me?" <LINK> by Michelle Magorian and  James Graham Hale.
