The eradication of Polio from the world is down a few pockets of the disease in 4 countries. The Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation has given $100 million to the Rotary Foundation for the Polio eradication project. Many Rotary Foundation Ambassador Scholarships for $23,000 for 9 months of study overseas are given around the world. Today, 1.2 million Rotarians belong to over 32,000 Rotary clubs in more than 200 countries and geographical areas. Matching grants of $5000 are available. We have done 1 for a water well in Zambia and are working on doing another. As is our custom, a book was donated to the Nellie McCall Library at the David McCall Elementary School in the speakers' name and duly signed by him. BOARD OF DIRECTORS MET AFTER THE REGULAR MEETING. Present were Warner Richeson, Richard Biggers, Doug Cargo, George Elking, George Elwell, Rod Hogan, Pat Hite, Joyce Baumbach, Randy Plumlee, Bill Peterson, Doug Ray, Juergen Mahneke, Bud McBrayer, Scott Villines, Colin Light and Terry Dobbins. Not present were Treasurer Chris Roach, Publicity Director Sharon Lewis and Community Service Director Rick Chron. President Richard II reported that membership plummeted again with the resignation of Jane Wyen due to her husband's heath and her new job. That takes us down to 50. Bookkeeper Colin Light reported that some money came in, some many went out and there was some left over and that the new email invoicing of quarterly dues was working well. Mark Rhodes was proposed for membership by Pat Hite. Classification will be "higher Education". He was approved for publication. President-Elect Randy Plumlee took notes and will publish them. New member Jennifer Smith is sewing the banners on the banners. Club Administration Scott Villines was designated to order her another large blank banner and to arrange with Bill Neukranz for a member mug shot session. 4-Way speech contest in two weeks. We still have 23 pallets of books for South Africa in the warehouse and are looking for transportation of them to Houston for overseas shipping. Money approved for the water well in Zambia and digging will start soon. Club has many credit points in the Foundation and will match up to $250 for Paul Harris donations and up to $100 for Sustaining Paul Harris donations for members not yet Paul Harris Fellows. Committee will consider designating a Paul Harris Fellow for a member and for a non-member. A birthday celebration and library book transfer will be organized around Nellie McCall's Birthday on March 2nd. Keep your eye out for people interested in Service Above Self and 100% attendance and propose them for membership. |
