CHIEF COOK AND SERVER RENE serves up breakfast as Bookie Collin and Pres-Elect Pat serve up plans to take over.

VISITING ROTARIANS AND GUEST, introduced by Secretary Joyce Baumbach were Fred Bemenderfer {Land Surveyor] from the Plano West Rotary Club, PDG Herb Hoxie [Attorney] from the Plano Rotary Club, L.B. Broach [Minister] from the Plano Rotary Club, Karen Marks [non-profit] from Plano West Rotary and Diana Kolb [Surveillance Systems] guest of George Elking.

SPECIAL RECOGNITION to Reeves Davis [retired Marine Fighter Pilot] and Steve Blair [retired from Printer's Ink], who we don't get to see very often.

ABSENT WERE Richard Butterly, Steve Dippel, George Elwell, Yvonne Hanks, Russel Head, Ray Hopper, Ken Lambert, Vickie McClurg, Becky Perry, Robert Posner, John Roach and Brenda Rogers.

PRESIDENT RANDY called on world Traveler Bill Moore for an update on the book project.  Bill said that there were still 14 pallets of books to be repackaged and he needed volunteers every Saturday morning from 9-11 am. It counts as a makeup.  Showing up on Saturday were Scott Villines, Don Mellor, Richard Biggers, Michelle Robbins, Bill Moore and an unidentified kid.

DON MELLOR was presented with an 8-year perfect attendance pin.

BUD MCBRAYER has been bragging about his new 20/20 vision, so President Randy had him read an email which revealed that Bud has been selected as the District Governor Nominee for the 2011-2012 Rotary Year. If everyone moves up as expected, Yvonne Hanks will be President that year.  Bud has promised to work us pretty hard.

BLOOD DRIVE CHAIRTHING
Jennifer Smith told us of a Blood Drive on Tuesday, Oct 14th at
Poor Richard's Cafe.  Workers are not needed but blood is, so roll up your sleeves and donate and get a free meal from Poor Richard's Cafe.  Workers will be needed for the CCCC Blood drive on Three Campuses on Wednesday, Nov 12th.  Signup sheets will be forthcoming.

POLITELY LEAVING EARLY at 7:47:32 am was John Payton.  He had notified the President, apologized to the speaker and paid two-bits [which he had to borrow] to ROTOIG.

PRESIDENT RANDY COMPLIMENTED PR PERSON SHARON LEWIS for the Oktoberfest Ad in the current issue of the Plano Profile.

Oktoberfest is just two weeks away.  Tickets need to be turned in! There will be work sessions at Joyce Baumbach's house every night until the event.   Come by and help set up Auction Items, do paperwork, organize everything. The meeting of Oct 17th will be a club assembly for a training session for all the different worker spots.

TODAY'S PROGRAM, introduced by Program Chairthing David Marks, was City of Plano Parks and Recreation Department Marketing and Special Events Manager Dana Conklin, who has been with the City of Plano for 20 years..  She has been appointed by the National Recreation and Park Association Board of Trustees to serve on the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation Agencies. She presented an update on the Veterans Memorial Park which will be dedicated on Tuesday, November 11, 2008.  The Art Work in the park will feature all branches of the Military. She noted that 40 trees have been planted and 80 more are on the way. One of the keynote speakers will be former POW and Congressman Sam Johnson. Marine Sgt-Major Dan Huff from Ft. Worth rode his motorcycle over to tell us about the Military participation in the dedication.  He noted that only 1% of the population protects the country. As is our custom, a book was donated to the Nellie McCall Library at the David McCall Elementary School in the name of the speakers and signed by them.   The book was "The Veteran's Day Visitor"

THE ASSISTANCE CENTER OF COLLIN COUNTY is having a garage sale at their location at 900  18th Street in Plano on Saturday, October 18 from 8 am to 2 pm.  In the meantime, donate your unwanted stuff between 9 am and 3 pm, Monday-Friday.
