LUCKY GUEST was Family Law Attorney Jean Power from Houston, Texas. She was the guest of Gordon Beach. Secretary Joyce laid some witty sayings on us before and after the introduction.  Unusually absent were any visiting Rotarians.

ABSENT WERE Richard Biggers, Richard Butterly, David Daniels, Ronnie Day, Eric Hartter, Judy Jackson, Mabrie Jackson, Juergen Mahneke, Bud McBrayer, Vickie McClung, Don Mellor, Bill Moore, John Payton, Bill Peterson, Robert Posner, John Roach, Brenda Rogers, Greg Rushin, Don Wilhelmus and Jane Wyen.

CLASSIFICATION TALK by Gordon Beach [Hardware Stores].  He has been on the manufacturing representative side and the factory side and has seen the hardware business change from small  independent hardware stores to giants.  He is plumb tired of it all and has retired.
DAVID MARKS holds up a flyer for Operation Veteran Support which is a Rotary District 5810 project supporting active and retired Veterans.  One thing they do is greet returning troops on the 1st Saturday of the month at DFW Airport.

BLOOD DRIVE CHAIRTHING Jennifer Smith reported that the recent Blood Drive at CCCCD met the goal and netted 161 units.
PRESIDENT RANDY announced that there is a meeting this morning at Poor Richard's Cafe to work on the Thanksgiving at Poor Richard's project which serves meals on Thanksgiving to the less fortunate.  It is expected that about 800 meals will be served in the Cafe and another 1000 delivered in surrounding communities.  Now is the time to confirm to Richard Butterly by email if you will be helping out .  Time for Service Above Self is from 10 am - 2 pm on Thursday, November 27th. You may work all or part of the time.

GEORGE ELKING reminded us that we will again be helping the Christmas Cops with their annual project.  Christmas Cops is a program operated by Plano Police Officers to assist Plano families in need during the Christmas Season. Collection boxes are placed at numerous local businesses, fire stations, libraries, and city facilities to collect toys, food, new coats, and miscellaneous household items. Shortly before Christmas, our Officers and Santa's Helpers make deliveries to these families.

RUDELY LEAVING EARLY at 7:27 a.m. was the unshaven Ken Lambert.

NEW ROTARY CLUB IS FORMING IN PLANO and soon will be chartered.  It is the Plano Latin American Rotary Club and it meets in Tino's Mexican Restaurant in Collin Creek Mall on Thursday nights. Most of the meeting is in Spanish.

TODAY'S PROGRAM was Monica Shortino, Executive Director of the PISD Education Foundation and Lisa Raskin, 2009 Chairman of Ski Plano. The Plano ISD Education Foundation is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. Its mission is to generate private support for priority projects identified by the Plano Independent School District for which tax dollars are not available. All contributions stay in Plano ISD and are tax-deductible to the extent provided by law.  Ski Plano Saturday, Jan 31, 2009 at 6:30 p.m. at Southfork Ranch. This is their 13th year and they are expecting 800 people.  Tickets are available on line. There will be Silent & Live Auctions, Raffle, Live Band, Dinner and Dancing to benefit the Students, Faculty, Staff and Schools of the PISD. As is our custom, a book was donated to the Nellie McCall Library at the David McCall Elementary School in the name of the speakers and signed by them.  The book was Mouse's First Snow by Lauren Thompson.
ONE OF THE AUCTION ITEMS for Ski Plano is a Lexus Lease for a year.  The driver of the demo Lexus was Kirsten Colvert, who told a story on her self about not understanding the "keyless entry and keyless ignition" feature.

PRESIDENT RANDY tried to close the meeting a minute early but was delayed by Sgt-at-Arms Scott and ROTOPIG who insisted on some two-bit fines for his bumbling of the meeting.
