CHRISTMAS PARTY with the Thursday Club will be Wednesday, December 10th at the Love and War in Texas Restaurant on Central at Plano Parkway.

TODAY'S PROGRAM, introduced by Foundation Chairthing Rod Hogan, was Polio Plus Pusher Frank Meier, an Architect from East Dallas Rotary Club. RI set a goal in 1985 to eliminate Polio from the world in 20 years.  In 1985 there were 350,000 cases of Polio worldwide. The last polio case in the U.S. had been in 1979. So far this  year, 1491 cases of Polio have been reported in the world.  Four countries are not yet certified Polio free: Afghanistan, Nigeria, India and Pakistan. More than 2 billion children have been vaccinated. There is a Polio Vaccine Service Opportunity on Jan 4 in India. A team of up to 16 Rotarians from D5810 will partner with Rotarians in India...to administer vaccine during Polio National Immunization Day. Eradicating Polio: the last Hurdle. Your contribution will help Rotary match a $100 million challenge grant from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The resulting $200 million will directly support immunization campaigns in developing countries, where polio continues to infect and paralyze children, robbing them of their futures and compounding the hardships faced by their families. As is our custom, a book was donated to the Nellie McCall Library at the David McCall Elementary School in the name of the speaker and signed by him.  The book was "Where Does the Butterfly Go When it Rains? by May Garelick.

STANDUP BOARD MEETING after the regular meeting approved the recommendation of the Oktoberfest Committee for the Distribution of the netted funds.  This was the BOD recommendation to the McCall Foundation's BOD who then had a standup board meeting and approved the distribution of funds from Oktoberfest as recommended by the previous two entities.
